PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a transporting device capable of enhancing the resolution of a transporting quantity controllable without enlarging a device, and always and precisely controlling the transporting quantity without being influenced by powder and dusts. SOLUTION: In this device for forming images on a recording sheet, a rotation angle and a circumferential speed of a transporting roller required for controlling the transportation of the recording sheet are calculated on the basis of detection signals (angular speedω) from a gyro sensor fixed to a rotary shaft of the transporting roller at a rotation angle calculation part 312 and a circumferential speed calculation part 314, and the transporting roller is drive-controlled using the calculated rotary angle and circumferential speed. The angular speedωdetected by the gyro sensor 70 is also utilized for detecting a paper end of the recording sheet at a paper end detection part 316, detecting jam of the recording sheet at a jam detection part 322, and detecting inclination of the entire device at an inclination judgment part 324.
