PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem of generation of an image trouble such that a density difference is brought about between both ends in a main scanning direction when gradation reproduction is carried out using a threshold matrix of a dot concentration type in an image forming apparatus which forms a latent image by performing reciprocative scanning in the main scanning direction by a deflection mirror face while irradiating a latent image carrier surface driven in the sub-scanning direction by light beams in the shape of a spot. SOLUTION: An image is formed by using N×1 cells. The cell has N (N≥2) pixels in the main scanning direction, and also has one pixel in the sub-scanning direction. For example, when 5×1 cells CL51 are used as shown in Fig. 11, no difference is generated in a range (spot latent image) where the 5×1 cells CL51 respectively arranged at a wide pitch side and a narrow pitch side are exposed by the spot. The generation of the image trouble that the density difference is brought about between both ends in the main scanning direction X although the image of an equal density is to be formed can be suppressed, thus enabling good gradation reproduction.
