PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To efficiently reduce transverse cracking at corner portions and internal cracking even in the case of being under high speed casting condition having≥1.0 m/min casting speed, when a high carbon steel having≥0.25 mass% carbon concentration is continuously cast by using a perpendicular and bending type slab continuous caster. SOLUTION: When the high carbon steel having≥0.25 mass% carbon concentration is cast by using the perpendicular and bending type slab continuous caster 1 having an upper part correcting zone 16 and a lower part correcting zone 17, the cooling water quantity in a secondary cooling zone from just below a mold to the upper part correcting zone is adjusted so that the surface temperature of the cast slab 12 at the time point when the cast slab is passed through the upper part correcting zone, becomes 750-850°C, and also, the cooling water quantity in the secondary cooling zone after passing through the upper part correcting zone, is adjusted so that the surface temperature of the cast slab at the time point when the cast slab is passed through the lower part correcting zone, becomes≥750°C.
