<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce user's burdens to improve convenience, when a shared document used by a plurality of users is edited. <P>SOLUTION: A document management system has a document management server and a client terminal, and the client terminal has a general-purpose browser and a file system. When registering a user, the document management server automatically creates a work folder for the user. The user directs checkout to the document management server through the browser, and then the document management server writes a directed document file into the user's work folder.
