<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To generate a chirp signal without increasing a circuit scale. <P>SOLUTION: This communication device 10 includes a transmission processing part 60 shown by a dotted line, a mode selection part 32, a local oscillation part 38, a reception processing part 70 shown by a dotted line, and an antenna 22. The transmission processing part 60 includes a transmission signal generating part 12, an orthogonal modulation part 14, an up-converter 16, a code generation part 18, and a frequency synthesizer 24. The reception processing part 70 includes a down-converter 26, a period capturing part 28, an orthogonal detection part 34, and a signal processing part 36. The mode selection part 32 selects at least any of a communication mode for executing communication processing for the communication device of an communication object, and a measuring mode for recognizing a measuring object 20.
