PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To inhibit torque variation during phase difference ignition in a lean combustion area in an internal combustion engine provided with a plurality of ignition plugs. SOLUTION: This internal combustion engine 1 is provided with a center plug 71and a side plug 72in a single combustion chamber 1b. The center plug 71is arranged at least one on a center part 1c of the combustion chamber 1b. Also, the side plug 72is arranged at least one on a bore 1t side of the combustion chamber 1b. The center plug 71and the side plug 72are used in phase difference ignition in lean combustion area.
