The label or seal comprises a coding layer (2, 6), a support layer (5) and an adhesive layer (10) which in the undamaged state has a coloured surface on the visible side (1) made up of several superposed coloured layers (3) of different shades from the coloured surface so that when the label which has been properly stuck down is removed from its backing the coloured layers separate from one another to show intervention. At least the coloured layers mounted above the bottom (9) layer have a translucent or transparent colouring. The colour shades of the superposed coloured layers are not visible until the label has been damaged or broken.
