A message display method of a portable terminal is provided to allow the terminal to group text messages by related to a message receiving box when the messages are transmitted/received, to store the grouped messages as group messages, and to display messages included in the group messages if the group messages are selected from group message lists, thus a user of the terminal can conveniently check the related messages. A portable terminal checks whether a message search event occurs(501). If so, the terminal displays searched items on a display(505), and checks whether a group message item is selected(507). If so, the terminal outputs group messages(509), and receives a selected particular group message from group message lists(511). The terminal displays the selected group message(513), and checks whether a displaying method is changed(515). If so, the terminal displays the group message on the display by the changed displaying method(517).
