PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To construct automatic double-sided scanner by functionally merging a double-sided printing unit with a flat head scanner unit without using a scanner ADF in a multifunctional printer. SOLUTION: The multifunctional printer is provided with a sheet transfer means which makes a sheet transfer path of the printer possibly pass the upper face mounted with a flat head once, and a reading means in which an opening is provided to the upper part of the sheet transfer path, namely, to the flat head scanner side, and a position allowing the printer side to scan a transferred sheet through the opening is made as a new reading range other than the conventional reading ranges of an A4 size and a letter size on the flat head scanner side.
