PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell stack capable of uniformly, equally applying contact pressure to a fuel cell of a cell module even if the cell module is expanded or contracted, not increasing the contact resistance of an electrode, not generating leakage of fuel gas, and having high output characteristics and high reliability. SOLUTION: The fuel cell stack having a cell module formed by stacking fuel cells each interposing an electrolyte layer between a fuel electrode and an oxygen electrode through a separator in which a fuel gas passage is formed along the fuel electrode includes a holding member interposing the cell module from both ends in the stacking direction of the fuel cell, a fastening member applying a fastening load to the cell module through the holding member, and an auxiliary holding member interposed between the holding member and the fastening member, and absorbing expansion and contraction in the stacking direction of the fuel cells.
