PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector which is capable of preventing the reduction in contrast of a projected image and reducing the color unevenness. SOLUTION: The projector includes a light source device, a color separating optical system for separating a luminous flux emitted from the light source device into a plurality of color light beams, a plurality of optical modulators for modulating respective separated color light beams in accordance with image information, a color synthesizing optical device for synthesizing optical images modulated by the optical modulators, and a projection optical device for enlarging and projecting a synthesized optical image. An optical filter 91 which reflects a prescribed spectrum component of the luminous flux and transmits the other spectrum components is disposed in an optical path from the light source device to the optical modulators. The optical filter 91 is so disposed that an luminous flux exit-side end face from which the luminous flux is emitted is inclined at a prescribed angle to a plane orthogonal to an optical axis of the luminous flux.
