PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a low-priced front plate which can perform inspection of a display defect speedily at a low cost and increase use efficiency of the front panel by inspecting a display defect of a web-shaped front plate, which is composed of at least a transparent electrode and a display material on a transparent base material before cutting, on a reel-to-reel basis without using a conductive peel sheet. SOLUTION: The web-shaped front plate for an electrophoretic display device is inspected by using an inspection device which inspects whether the front plate has a display defect by making the front plate travel on an electrode for inspection on the reel-to-reel basis and applying a voltage between an electrode of the front plate and the electrode for inspection. Consequently, the use efficiency of the front plate depending upon a display defect can be made higher than when the display defect of the front plate is inspected after the front plate is cut to greatly lower the cost.
