PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent the peeling on a cycloolefin base resin film surface layer near adhesion interface in regard to a polarizing plate made by joining a stretched cycloolefin base resin film to a polyvinyl alcohol base polarizing film with adhesive. SOLUTION: In the polarizing plate made by joining a cycloolefin base resin film to a polarizing film made of polyvinyl base alcohol resin with adhesive, the cycloolefin base resin film is stretched into a stretching ratio of 1.05 to 1.6 times at a temperature 5°C higher than the glass transition temperature and a stretching speed of 10 m/min or less so that the in-plane retardation is made to be 40 to 100 nm and the thickness-directional retardation is made to be 80 to 250 nm. It is advantageous that the stretched cycloolefin base resin film is joined to one side surface of the polarizing film and a cellulose acetate film is joined to the other side surface, respectively with adhesive.
