PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To steadily irradiate the surface of a photosensitive material with exposure light for a long time. SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus 100 includes: an organic EL array 11 in which organic EL elements are one-dimensionally or two-dimensionally arranged; an imaging lens array 2 by which light emitted from the organic EL array 11 is imaged on a photoreceptive material; a memory 41 for storing an amount of characteristic of a beam profile changing with a change in the proportion of the light emission area of the organic EL element; a beam profile inspecting section 8 that measures the current beam profile of the organic EL element; a system control section 4 by which the current proportion of the light emission area of the organic EL element is determined, based on the stored amount of characteristic of the beam profile and the measured current beam profile; and a drive section 7 by which a distance between the organic EL array 11 and imaging lens array 2 and/or a distance between the imaging lens array 2 and stage 3 is changed, based on the determined proportion of the light emission area so that the area where light is emitted to the surface of the photosensitive material is kept constant.
