PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem of a conventional vacuum cleaner wherein it is necessary to increase the suction pressure generated from a built-in electric blower to further reduce the pressure in the inside of a floor brush for higher dust collection performance. SOLUTION: The vacuum cleaner has projections 25a and 25b under the floor brush 24 and channel blocking parts 42 and 43 in the periphery of an opening part 41. The channel blocking parts can block suction into the opening part 41 by touching a floor surface, so that the pressure inside of the floor brush 24 can be reduced. After that, the channel blocking parts 42 and 43 are separated from the floor surface, so that suction into the opening part 41 can be restarted. Accordingly, as the pressure inside the floor brush 24 can be temporarily reduced and suction can be restarted thereafter, the suction force in the opening part 41 is immediately increased at the moment when the suction is restarted, so that the dust firmly entangled in the floor surface such as a carpet or the dust penetrating the depth of the carpet or joints of floor boards can be sucked.
