The invention concerns a system for determining rate of dilution of a motor vehicle heat engine lubricating oil by the supply fuel thereof during the operation of the engine using a delayed fuel injection in its cylinders, said system comprising means (12) for estimating the rate of dilution dependent on the current operating mode of the engine based on a dilution rate variation model. Said system includes means (18) for determining the current running mode of the vehicle and means (16) for selecting at least one parameter of the dilution rate variation model based on the determined running mode.
