PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To set an energy saving mode shifting time for lowering power consumption based on an actual operation pattern.

SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus is equipped with an energy saving mode in which the power consumption is lower than in an ordinary state: the energy saving mode shifting time to shift to the energy saving mode; a release means for releasing the energy saving mode: a monitoring means for monitoring the service circumstances of the image forming apparatus for a fixed period; a storage means for storing the result of monitoring; a calculation means for calculating consumed electric power for the fixed period based on result of monitoring stored in the storage means; and a means for temporarily setting the energy saving mode shifting time and calculating virtual power consumption based on the temporarily set shifting time and the content of the storage means. When the image forming apparatus is not used for a fixed time or longer, the energy saving mode shifting time of the image forming apparatus is reset based on a result obtained by calculating the virtual power consumption. It is equipped with: a means for displaying the virtual power consumption and the power consumption for the fixed period; and a means for inputting the energy saving mode shifting time.
