PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a thermostat capable of opening or closing electric contacts by quickly responding even to an object having a high temperature change speed such as a radiation type heating element. SOLUTION: By providing a bimetal 28 where at least a part thereof directly receives radiant light, electric contacts 23 and 24 opened or closed by thermal deformation of the bimetal 28 and terminals 26 and 27 electrically connected to the electric contacts 23 and 24, the bimetal 28 of this thermostat 20 directly receives radiant light and is heated, whereby the temperature change of the bimetal 28 is fast and the thermostat capable of rapidly opening or closing the electric contacts 23 and 24 can be provided.
