PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electro-optical device which has superior durability by having a hard coat layer, and to provide an efficient manufacturing method for such an electro-optical device. SOLUTION: Disclosed are the electro-optical device which uses a glass substrate as a base material and the manufacturing method therefor, wherein the hard coat layer containing at least one silane compound selected from a group of an alkyl silane compound, an alkoxy silane compound, an aryl silane compound, and an aryloxy silane compound is formed on a surface of the glass substrate, after or before assembling of the electro-optical device.
