<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a fuel cell capable of suppressing an increase of nitrogen gas concentration on the side of an anode electrode layer and of securing a starting characteristic and convenience well. <P>SOLUTION: A fuel cell stack is formed with unit cells each equipped with an MEA 10 and separators 20. To the stack, a hydrogen gas supply pipe 31 and an air supply pipe 32 for supplying gases from the outside are connected and a hydrogen gas exhaust pipe 35 and an air exhaust pipe 36 for exhausting unreacted gases are connected. Gas supply-side valves 33 and 34 are attached to the pipes 31 and 32, and gas exhaust-side valves 37 and 38 are attached to the pipes 35 and 36. The valves 33 and 37 seal an anode electrode layer-side space including an anode electrode layer. The valves 34 and 38 seal a cathode electrode-side space including a cathode electrode layer. Thereby, introduction of new air is prevented, whereby an increase of nitrogen gas concentration in the anode electrode layer-side space can be suppressed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
