PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a calculation method for precisely calculating the attenuation in the cutoff region in the permittivity periodic structure represented by the photonic crystal polarization separator. SOLUTION: The test function of the electro-magnetic field distribution in the periodic structure in the propagation region/boundary of cutoff region obtained by the existing method of numerical solution such as the whole azimuth periodic boundary type FDTD method, is substituted into the variation expression of specific frequency, and by evaluating the numerical integration, the relation between the attenuation constant and the specific frequency is precisely calculated with smaller amount of calculation than the conventional method in the cutoff region.
