Provided is an active material support in a polar plate for a lead storage battery, which has superior hygroscopicity and electrolyte-retention, thereby improving the battery performance, and has mechanical properties, thereby improving the workability and productivity, as well as has prolonged battery life. The active material support(5) in a polar plate(1,2) for a lead storage battery(3) is formed of a fabric which is woven with warps of a thermoplastic multi-filaments having a circular cross section or shaped yarns having a non-circular cross section and wefts of shaped yarns having a non-circular cross section, and into which a hydrophilic resin is impregnated. The shaped yarns have a cross-section having a 3-8 angled polygonal shape or an oval shape with 3-8 protuberances. The fabric has a texture of 5-16 leaf twill or 5-16 leaf satin. |
