A system and a method for searching a missing child by using a mobile terminal are provided to promptly search a missing child through mobile terminal users within a corresponding area by providing information on a target in real time. A user of a mobile terminal downloads a midlet for receiving a missing child message and installs it in the mobile terminal(S10). When a missing child search center receives a report on a missing child, it provides missing child information such as an area where the child missing occurs, a photo of the missing child and time at which the child missing has occurred to a multimedia message server(S12). The multimedia message server transmits a multimedia message including the missing child search information to mobile terminals located within the area where the child missing has occurred, in the form of a push message(S14). The missing child search information is displayed on the mobile terminals which have received the multimedia message(S18).
