LUMINANCE CONVERTING APPARATUS

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a luminance converting apparatus capable of appropriately intensifying contrast regardless of the distributing state of a luminance histogram.

SOLUTION: A luminance converting apparatus 1 comprises a differentiation value calculator 11, and an absolute value calculator 12 for determining the amount of changing each of pixels of an inputted image from its peripheral pixels; an average value calculator 14 for determining an average value of the change amount calculated by the differentiation value calculator 11 for pixels having the same luminance; a luminance conversion LUT creator 15 for creating a table for performing luminance conversion, based on the average value calculated by the average value calculator 14; and a luminance converter 16 for performing luminance conversion using the table created by the luminance conversion LUT creator 15.
