PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance convenience in information retrieval in an electronic dictionary device retrieving and displaying, from various index words, illustration information thereof without causing a confusing state where an index word having voice data cannot be discriminated from an index word not having the data. SOLUTION: Actual pronounced voice data is stored in association with important index words of a number of index words of dictionary data. When a plurality of index words according to an input character string in a retrieval character string input screen G are retrieved, and a "change-over" key 14a is operated while displaying a retrieval index word list screen G1 in a general mode, only index words having actual pronounced voice data among the plurality of retrieved index words are extracted and displayed as a retrieval index word list screen G2 with voice in a pronounced index word mode. When a desired index word is designated and displayed by a reversion cursor k, and a "voice" key is operated, actual pronounced voice corresponding to the designated index word is outputted even if any index word is designated.
