The armrest (1) is arranged in a section that is stretched by a backrest of a seat, where the armrest is swivellable from a support position into a rest position. The armrest is connected with a spindle (2) that is rotatably supported and arranged perpendicular to a top edge of the backrest and parallel to the section that is stretched by a backrest of a seat. The spindle is connected with an electric motor (4) for its rotary drive. A shaft (5) is arranged between the spindle and the motor. An independent claim is also included for a method of lowering of a height adjustable arm support.
