<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce costs for a biological activity monitoring system and to improve precision of detection by the system by precisely detecting big activities such as lying down, getting up and feeble biological activity such as breathing, heartbeat of a person by one system. <P>SOLUTION: In a method for monitoring the presence/absence of action and the biological activity of the person in a living environment with sleeping using a bed, a futon, a pad, a rush mat, etc., an optical fiber type flat sensor obtained by fixing or mixing an optical fiber is laid on a flat body such as a sheet made of fabric or arranged for covering the flat body therewith, and light is incident into the optical fiber from a light source. Thus, fluctuation of a polarized state of the light propagated in the optical fiber caused by fluctuation of the shape of the optical fiber type flat sensor with the action or the biological activity of the person is detected by a polarization fluctuation measuring device to discriminate the activity and the state of the person from the detected value of the polarization fluctuation. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
