<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stereoscopic image display device that controls the display modes of the own device in accordance with an input image signal and displays a 2D image and a stereoscopic image in an easily visible manner with high resolution. <P>SOLUTION: The 2D-image/stereoscopic-image compatible image display device includes a device for comparing image signals input to the stereoscopic image display device and determining whether the image signals are 2D image signals or stereoscopic image signals.
