PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent wrong assembly of a cam chain guide while enabling weight reduction of an internal combustion engine in which the chain guide is positioned by fitting a projection provided on both sides of an intermediate part of the cam chain guide into a positioning recess part provided on a joining surface of a cylinder body to a cylinder head. SOLUTION: In an internal combustion engine, an extension part 47extending on a cam chain chamber 42 side flush with at least one of both side surfaces of a retention groove 43 and the joining surface 44 is formed in one unit with a cylinder body 13.
