A system for detecting objects in an area which is monitored by the system, and an antenna for use in such a system. The antenna has one or more units, each of the units including a base provided with at least one current path. The bases of said units being mechanically connected to each other, and the current paths of at least two of said units being connected electrically or magnetically to each other such that they behave like a single magnetic source.
