A passive radiator has an arcuate contour that follows the contour of the surface where the passive radiator is mounted. The component may be a television set, audio component, high fidelity loudspeaker, home theater loudspeaker, subwoofer, etc. The arcuate contour of the passive radiator may be convex, parabolic, hyperbolic, or a combination thereof. Furthermore, the convex surface may be cylindrical, spherical or another contour depending on surface contour of the enclosure where it is mounted. The passive radiator rim shape may be circular, rounded rectangular, ovular, elliptical or any other suitable shape. A contoured passive radiator of relatively large size can be mounted on a relatively small TV set, for example a contoured passive radiator equivalent to 8'' diameter for a small television set of 14'', thus producing a better bass sound. The contoured passive radiator has wider sound directivity, hence reducing the irregularity of the SPL of the bass sound. Compared to a bass reflex system, a passive radiator does not produce turbulent sound as well as reflected sound from inside the enclosure.
