摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electroluminescent device with improved directivity of emitted light in a specific direction, a manufacturing method of the same, a planar illumination device, and a liquid crystal display device. SOLUTION: An organic EL rod 11 has a transparent supporting rod 12, an anode layer 13 having light transmission property formed on whole part of outside face 12a of the supporting rod 12, and a hole transport layer 14 and a light emitting layer 15 formed on whole part of outside face 13a of the anode layer. The organic EL rod 11 has a nearly semi-circular cathode layer 16 having light reflection property at a part of outside face 15a of the light emitting layer 15.
