PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electrode for cold cathode tube restraining sputtering of the electrode, being superior in welding properties, and to provide a cold cathode tube using the same. SOLUTION: On the cylindrical electrode for cold cathode tube having a bottom part at one side and an opening at the other side, the electrode is made of a sintered compact made of single metal selected from W, Nb, Ta, Mo, Re, or an alloy thereof. The relation d2>d1 is established, where the entire length of the electrode is L, d1 is an inside diameter at L/2 part, d2 is the inside diameter of the bottom part. By forming into the above shape, inner face of sidewall part is practically formed into a convex shape, and sputtering phenomenon at inner face of the bottom part of the electrode can be restrained.
