PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer which is downsized in an extension direction of a platen roller and surely maintain a nozzle surface. SOLUTION: This printer has a horizontally moving means 121 and a vertically moving means 131. The horizontally moving means 121 drives a timing belt 123 to move the frame body 132 of the vertically moving means 131 along a horizontal guide shaft 122 to move the printing head 111 held by a head carrier 112 in a substantially horizontal direction. The vertically moving means 131 drives a cam 134 by sliding one end of a protruding part 134a on the opening portion 112a of the head carrier 112, and moves the head carrier 112 along the vertical guide shaft 133 to move the printing head 111 in substantially a vertical direction. The printing head 111 is moved by the horizontally moving means 121 and the vertically moving means 131 to be adjacent to a maintenance mechanism 141 to keep the nozzle surface 111b clean.
