PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a spindle device, holding a spindle in a horizontal state and rotatably supporting the same with good accuracy by a gas bearing, by applying to the spindle a balance force canceling the weight unbalance of heavy goods mounted on the spindle. SOLUTION: When a workpiece is mounted on the spindle to cause weight unbalance in the weight goods mounted on the spindle, the spindle is inclined to lower the rotational frequency. In the present invention, a balance force applying device applies the balance force for canceling weight unbalance to the spindle, whereby the spindle is rotatably supported by a gas bearing keeping the horizontal state with very high rotational frequency without displacement in the thrust direction and driven in rotation by an electric motor.
