CATALYST FOR CATALYTIC PARTIAL OXIDATION OF HYDROCARBON AND PROCESS FOR PRODUCING SYNTHESIS GAS

A catalyst for catalytic partial oxidation which has high activity and long-term durability. Also provided is a method which enables a catalytic partial oxidation reaction to proceed stably over long. The catalyst for catalytic partial oxidation comprises: a support obtained by adding nickel and at least either of barium and lanthanum to alumina or an alumina precursor and burning the mixture; and a platinum-group metal, e.g., rhodium, deposited on the support. The support is obtained through burning at a temperature of, e.g., 600°C or higher. In this burning step, nickel aluminate is yielded. This catalyst is packed into an adiabatic reactor. A feed hydrocarbon is mixed with oxygen, steam, and hydrogen (hydrogen is unnecessary when the feed hydrocarbon contains hydrogen) and this mixture is fed to the reactor.
