<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a surface light source device which performs liquid crystal display having excellent color reproduction or excellent luminance symmetricity by using a compact light mixing element capable of satisfactorily mixing light beams from a plurality of point primary light sources. <P>SOLUTION: The edge light type surface light source device includes: a light guide body 3; the light mixing element 2 disposed adjacently to the light incident edge surface; and multiple kinds of point primary light sources 1 which are disposed adjacently to the light mixing element and have emission colors different from one another. In the light mixing element 2, a large number of columnar surfaces 22 extended in the Z-direction are formed between an upper surface and a lower surface having light reflection films 25 of a light transmitting member 21 such that advancing directions of light emitted from respective point primary light sources 1 arranged in the Y-direction parallel to the upper and lower surfaces are changed by reflection and/or refraction on the columnar surfaces 22 and, thereby, light beams are mixed. In the light mixing element 2, the upper and lower surfaces are disposed to be substantially parallel to a light emission surface of the light guide body 3 such that light beams emitted from respective point primary light sources 1 are mixed by the light mixing element 2 and are made incident to the light incident edge surface of the light guide body 3. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2007,JPO&INPIT |
