PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and a device for butt-joining webs capable of preventing a web of a new roll from being damaged by a remaining cut portion of a web of an old roll. SOLUTION: The butt-joining device 10 comprises a turret device 12 which supports an old roll 24 and a new roll 28 and is turned at every predetermined angle, a cutting drum 38 and a cut-joining drum 40 for cutting a web 32 of the old roll 24 and a web 44 of the new roll 28 in an overlapping condition, a joining drum 42 which holds a joining tape 62 and affixes it to joined portions of the webs 32, 44, and a remaining cut portion removing device 100 for removing a remaining cut portion 32B of the web 32 after the cutting from a conveying line. The remaining cut portion removing device 100 holds and scrapes up the remaining cut portion 32B by a scraping-up roller 102 and a roller 43, and sucks and holds it by a suction cup 112, and collects it in a receiving pan 120.
