A backlight assembly and an LCD having the same are provided to use no diffusion sheet and a prism sheet, thereby reducing the thickness of the backlight assembly, by using an optical sheet including a plurality of protrusions, which are formed in various angles with respect to an upper surface of a base film. A backlight assembly(100) comprises a plurality of lamps(200), a diffusion plate(300) disposed above the lamps, and an optical sheet(400) disposed above the diffusing plate. The plurality of lamps are disposed in parallel with one another. The optical sheet includes a base film(410) and a plurality of protrusions(420) formed on the base film, wherein the protrusions are arranged in various angles with respect to an upper surface of the base film.
