Hull mounted antenna for emergency alert from capsized marine vessel

A system for transmitting an emergency alert message from a capsized marine vessel to rescuers comprises an antenna 40 fixed to the vessel 10 in a position and orientation so that it can transmit when the vessel is in a capsized orientation (see fig. 3 also). Preferably the antenna 40 is fixed internally or externally (fig 4a-4d) to the hull of the vessel 10 and is uppermost when the vessel is capsized and the primary antenna 15 is underwater. The system can communicate via satellite 20 to a land station 30,35 and receive messages back. The alert message may contain the position of the vessel (fig 5). The system may include alert siren and lights on the vessel (fig 5).
