A backlight unit and a display device having the same are provided to improve the color reproducing performance of the backlight unit and reduce the consumption power of the backlight unit, by using a point light source and a linear light source simultaneously. A backlight unit comprises a first light guiding plate(41). A linear light source(51) is disposed along one lateral surface of the first light guiding plate. A plurality of light guiding plates(45) are disposed to face the first light guiding plate. A plurality of point light sources(55) are disposed along at least lateral surfaces of the plurality of second light guiding plates. The first light guiding plate includes an exit surface(41a), a first incidence surface(41b) facing the exit surface, and a second incidence surface(41c) facing the light source. The second light guiding plate faces the first incidence surfaces of the first light guiding plate.
