A propulsion device comprising a propeller 23 mounted on a shaft 3 and driven by a gas turbine engine, the engine being positioned upstream of the propeller 23, or in a spinner 2 thereof, in use. The compressor 7 and turbine 55, or the blades/vanes thereof, of the engine may be combined to form a single component. A gear mechanism may be disposed between the propeller 23 and the turbine engine. The turbine 55, or a component thereof, may be partially enclosed by a combustion chamber 11, preferably of the reverse flow type, of the engine. The angle of incidence of the propeller blades may be adjustable.
