A Traffic detection and communication quality monitoring system comprising a Frequency-distribution calculation unit 25 for calculating a frequency distribution of arrival times of the packets based on arrival times, comparing data of frequency distribution calculation against data of expected frequency distribution of arrival times of subject traffic to be detected, to detect the subject traffic based on the comparison. The subject traffic maybe voice traffic. Aspects of the invention include communication quality calculated by comparing a parameter of the frequency distribution against a threshold to judge degradation of communication quality. The parameters include dispersion, standard deviation, half power breadth and peak power of the peak in the distribution diagram. The invention provides detection and monitoring of voice traffic without the need for protocol analysis of the packet. |
