A method and apparatus in which light from an object 110 is received at a multi-spectral optical module 115, which transmits a plurality of wavelength band portions of the received light 113, each having a pre-selected bandwidth between two nanometers and about nanometers. Each of the wavelength band portions may have the same preselected bandwidth, or may have different pre-selected bandwidths. The multi-spectral optical module may comprise a linear or angular variable filter 120 and a modifier 130. Image data may be generated corresponding to the wavelength band portions and compared to reference data to identify materials in the object. |
