<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a controller for a vehicle capable of extending lifetime of a conveying belt and improving fuel consumption and a drivability while the conveying belt is prevented from slipping. Ž<P>SOLUTION: The controller 1 for the vehicle 3 is provided with a continuously variable transmission 20 transmitting power of an internal combustion engine 4 to driving wheels 7 and 7 by changing speed in a continuously variable state, and a frictional type clutch 30. The controller 1 sets transmission transmitting torque TQDRBLTM and TQDNBLTM to be transmitted from a drive pulley 22 to a driven pulley 23 of the continuously variable transmission 20, and also sets clutch transmitting torque PCCMDL to be transmitted by the clutch 30, and determines whether the vehicle 3 runs on a bad road or not. When determining that the vehicle 3 runs on a bad road, the clutch transmitting torque PCCMDL is reduced so as to slide the clutch 30, and the transmission transmitting torque TQDRBLTM and TQDNBLTM are set to be larger while the clutch transmitting torque PCCMDL is becoming larger.
