Filamentary articles, i.e. fibres, filaments, yarns, threads, cords and tows, made from a -olefin polymers having at least three carbon atoms per monomer unit are lubricated and their tendency to accumulate static electric charges in processes such as opening, carding, stretching, drawing, roving, spinning, twisting and winding is reduced by applying to them not more than 3% by weight of alkoxylated saturated aliphatic compounds containing an active hydrogen atom and a hydrocarbon group of 12-18 carbons, the degree of alkoxylation being not more than four moles of alkylene oxide per mole of aliphatic compound. The treating agent is preferably produced by the alkoxylation of an acid, ester, alcohol or amide having an active hydrogen atom and a saturated aliphatic hydrocarbon group of 12-18 carbon atoms, compounds formed by alkoxylating esters of palmitic and stearic acids with alkanols having 1-4 carbon atoms preferably with ethylene oxide or propylene oxide or mixtures thereof being specified. The filamentary articles may be made from stereo-regular, highly crystalline, high molecular weight polymers of a -olefins of the formula CH2=CHR in which R is an alkyl group. The filamentary articles may be treated with the undiluted liquids or organic solvent or aqueous solutions thereof or with aqueous emulsions containing 5-25% by weight of the treating agent.
