FIELD: mechanical engineering. ^ SUBSTANCE: washing machine has steam generating device adapted for direct heating of washing water. Method involves measuring temperature of steam generating device; controlling operation of water feeding device for feeding of water into steam generating device in accordance with temperature within the latter at which temperature water is fed into steam generating device for performing washing process; controlling water quantity fed for performing washing process; providing steam controlling process in accordance with time needed for controlling said water feeding device. Steam is fed for fast wetting of cloths to thereby reduce washing time and consumption of power. Steam is sprayed onto cloths for providing sterilizing effect. ^ EFFECT: increased efficiency, improved wetting of cloths for improving washing quality and preventing crease formation. ^ 9 cl, 4 dwg
