FIELD: technology for determining linear value of gap between two electrodes with conductive surfaces electrically isolated from each other, possible use for measuring gaps between contacts and electrodes in locations mostly inaccessible for linear measurements. ^ SUBSTANCE: method for measuring linear value of gap between two electrodes with conductive surfaces electrically isolated from each other includes placing an object with calibrated linear dimension between surfaces and determining value of gap on basis of caliber value. Method features generation of caliber in form of plasma column of gas discharge, and its value is determined on basis of value of charge ignition potential with known gas pressure in gap space. ^ EFFECT: increased precision when measuring the gap between two electrodes with conductive surfaces electrically isolated from each other in partially or completely inaccessible locations, measurement when measuring non-planar surface gaps. ^ 3 dwg
