An image forming system and a controlling method thereof are provided to fix configuration of the image forming system based on system configuration information including ID information for each device and setting information for arrangement order of the device corresponding to the ID information without using a dedicated line. A storing part stores the ID information for identifying each sheet processing devices(ID11-ID13) connected to the network(101) and the information for the arrangement order of the devices. A fixing part fixes the system configuration for forming an image based on a result communicated with the sheet processing device. A system configuration register registers the ID information of the sheet processing device connected to the network and the information for the arrangement order of the devices. The fixing part includes a determiner determines availability of the sheet processing device corresponding to the ID information stored in the storing part based on the information stored in the storing part and the communication result communicated with the sheet processing device. |
