A sliding unit for a portable terminal is provided to make a sliding movement operation easy, to offer pastime pleasure via a click feeling, and to enhance space utilization. A sliding unit for a portable terminal comprises a base member, a sliding member, a pair of guide members and a multistep moving member. The base member installs a sliding movement member on its inner side. The sliding member is combined with the base member along a length direction while being capable of performing a semiautomatic sliding movement. A pair of guide members, installed at the sliding movement member, are slidably combined with the sliding movement member and also guide the sliding movement member. The multistep moving member, formed at the guide members, are attached to or detached from the sliding movement member and also makes the sliding member perform a multistep sliding movement.
